THE MOST FREQUENT QUESTIONS
What is the Alexandrite laser and how is it used in hair removal?
Alexandrite is a mineral — or simply put, a crystal — which, when used in a laser hair removal device, emits a specific wavelength of energy.
This energy penetrates the upper layers of the skin and reaches the hair follicle, where it is absorbed by the melanin. As a result, the follicle is destroyed and gradually stops producing hair.
Is IPL and photoepilation the same as lasers like Alexandrite?
Why should I choose Alexandrite laser hair removal instead of diode laser?
First, because Alexandrite laser hair removal typically requires fewer sessions compared to diode laser treatments.
In addition, after an Alexandrite laser session, the skin appears clean and free of visible hair. With diode laser treatments, however, hair usually needs to be present on the skin before the session. Even after the treatment, it can take at least ten days for the hair to shed completely.
This means that with diode laser, visible hair may remain in the treated areas for a longer period each month.
Does waxing provide the same results as Alexandrite laser hair removal?
Waxing is a method of past decades. Modern technologies are far more effective when it comes to long-term hair reduction. With waxing, treatments must be repeated for many years just to achieve slight thinning of the hair. In contrast, laser hair removal requires only a limited number of sessions for near-permanent reduction.
Additionally, waxing — especially on areas like the face — can sometimes stimulate fine facial hair (peach fuzz), causing it to become darker and coarser over time. With Alexandrite laser technology, we can adjust the parameters to effectively “ignore” fine vellus hair and target only darker, thicker hairs, delivering precise and optimal results.
I’ve never had laser hair removal before. How many sessions will I need to get rid of unwanted hair?
The number of sessions varies depending on each individual’s hair type. Factors such as hair density, color, and hormonal influences all play an important role in determining how many treatments are needed.
For body areas, it is common to require 5–8 sessions to achieve approximately 80%–90% hair reduction. Facial treatments typically require more sessions, as this area is more directly influenced by hormonal factors.
During my treatment, will I also need follow-up sessions?
A follow-up session is a complementary treatment performed within 15 days of the main session. Hair growth does not occur simultaneously for all hairs. During the follow-up session, we target the few hairs that have developed after the initial treatment. In this way, we ensure that the therapy has been effectively applied to the entire area of hair growth.
Is Alexandrite laser hair removal a painful procedure?
Although each person’s sensitivity to discomfort varies, modern Alexandrite laser systems — such as the Clarity by Lutronic — feature integrated cooling technology designed to soothe the skin during treatment.
As a result, laser hair removal is performed with minimal discomfort and is virtually painless.
I have dark skin. Can I safely undergo Alexandrite laser hair removal?
Yes — provided you choose a center equipped with a modern Alexandrite laser system that allows the adjustment of parameters suitable for darker skin tones, ensuring both safety and effectiveness.
The Clarity I Alexandrite Laser by Lutronic is one such advanced system, enabling us to perform laser hair removal safely across a wide range of skin types.
I have a tan. Can I safely have Alexandrite laser hair removal?
Yes, you can — provided there is no intense or recent tanning.
Areas such as the arms, legs, and face are ideally treated with Alexandrite laser hair removal up until the early months of spring. If there is no significant tan, however, Alexandrite laser treatments can be safely performed throughout the year.
Is there any reason that would prevent me from having Alexandrite laser hair removal?
Only in cases where there is an existing dermatological condition that does not allow even mild skin irritation.
Additionally, Alexandrite laser hair removal is contraindicated during acne treatment or in cases where photosensitivity has been diagnosed.
